I'm Ahnaaf Hassan, and I'm running to be your next TDSB Trustee for Scarborough Southwest and Beaches–East York. Over the past year, the TDSB has seen changes affecting students in every way. From classroom supply accessibility and getting rid of classroom size caps, to the continuous underfunding of special education, $6.4 million cut in the coming year, we are seeing education get continuously less accessible.
As a Trustee candidate, my goal is to make classrooms a space where student achievement doesn't come second to funding. For educators and staff, this means schools with properly funded programs and resources, so nothing comes out of their pockets.
In my term as a Student Trustee, I represented over 239,000 students in the TDSB, and advocated tirelessly at the board and beyond. I've worked with MPPs, municipally elected officials, and community organizations in order to advocate for student and community voice. From issues like Bill 33, mandating police presence in schools, to OSAP cuts, I've been working with press and students to make sure they're heard across the province. I've also recently been honoured to have been recognized as a finalist for Canada's top 10 youngest changemakers, driving action across the country. This is a result of my tireless work with students and the community, and my advocacy in education.
This election, I'm running to be a trustee because I know how to listen to the community. I know many of the issues the community faces, but my goal is to work with you, and tackle the issues you'll continue to face throughout the next 4 years. I hope you trust me, the same way your children and youth trusted me this past year to represent them, and vote Ahnaaf for Trustee.
